The Best of Bodmin Moor is an association of businesses based on and around Bodmin Moor whose aim is to promote the economic prosperity of local communities and businesses. This is achieved by bringing together the local people, visitors, product and service suppliers and providers for their mutual benefit, whilst at the same time protecting and sustaining the distinctive and incomparable environment of Bodmin Moor.
The Best of Bodmin Moor grew from the Bodmin Moor Project, an initiative supported by Cornwall County Council, Caradon and North Cornwall District Councils and other government agencies. The Group continues to benefit from the support of the councils, the Cornwall AONB Partnership, and has received in the past key funding from South West of England Regional Development Agency, Enterprise Tamar and the Rural Key Fund, amongst others.
The group has now published four walk books, all based on and around Bodmin Moor, the last in the series being 'The Copper Trail' a complete circumnavigation of Bodmin Moor and has sold over 1000 copies of this book, through the 30 plus outlets we have in Cornwall. The finance raised by the sale of the books enables the group to be self sustainable and create three websites to date, http://www.bobm.info/, http://www.visitbodminmoor.co.uk/ and http://www.coppertrail.co.uk/ The first book 'Six Walks Volume 1, was reprinted in 2007, from the group's funds, and leaflets are being planned for 2007, all this would not be possible without book sales.
We have currently 88 member businesses and represent them on a number of bodies including, The Cornwall Commercial Tourism Federation, North Cornwall Tourism Trade Forum, The Local Development Group (NCDC), The Caradon Area Tourism Forum and we liaise, lobby and discuss issues with any bodies that are relevant to our members, including visitcornwall and South West Tourism.
BoBM is in its 6th year and planning further growth for the next six years. The group is now self financed and sustains support without the need to rely on external funding. Its aim is to continue the growth in membership and ensure full representation of interests on the Moor, based on the established framework and infrastructure of the group. If your business is based on Bodmin Moor or you are a supplier to the local people and moorland businesses, or you are involved with the Moor through your guests or other activities, why not join the Best of Bodmin Moor Marketing group.
